That's when the legendary Grand Theft Auto V released for the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360. However, it's been almost 8 years now since then, and we want to know: Will we ever get any news on GTA VI?

GTA V has now spanned the PS3, PS4 and PS5. Three entire console generations. Don't get me wrong, if there's a game that would be capable of doing this, it's GTA V. With the consistent updates being pushed out by developer Rockstar Games, the infinite possibilities in multiplayer sessions and just generally being a lot of damn fun to play, it makes sense that it's lasted as long as it has.

GTA V has gone down in history as the highest-grossing media title of all time. Yeah, not just video game. Media title. GTA V has grossed over double what the highest grossing film of all time made.

Avengers: Endgame holds that title at $2,797,800,564. For contrast, GTA V has made an absolutely staggering $6,000,000,000+ since its release. When you compare that to Rockstar's $265 million budget for the game, I think it's safe to say the company's doing alright.

So now that it's evident that Rockstar is absolutely swimming in money, what's keeping them from just...making some more? Techradar reported that in an interview with Rockstar's parent Company Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick, he was asked about the game. He said:

Right, so, Rockstar hasn’t announced any new titles for the market and when there’s an announcement to be made it’ll come from Rockstar, so I’ll probably leave you there and I don’t think you would have expected anything else.

So there's still nothing. There were five years between GTA IV and GTA V, and here we are, almost 8 years down the line, with nothing. There have been rumors floating around that GTA VI is in "early development," but I've heard nothing official since that rumor leaked in April 2020.

We want GTA VI. Hell, we don't even want the game right now. Just tell us that it's happening. You will make the money, so just do it.

I've talked about this extensively with my friends and other people in the Lubbock gaming scene, and the feeling is universal. We all want it. We'll all buy it. Let us give you our money.
