Thomas Thompson, a Lubbock police officer, was one of four finalists for the 2019 International Association of Chiefs of Police/Target Award.

Thompson was introduced on stage by President Donald Trump during the IACP conference in Chicago.

Officer Thompson responded to a robbery in progress at a local game room back in August 2018. KAMC News reports that Thompson confronted one of the armed suspects, who pointed a gun at him. Thompson fell backwards but opened fire, injuring the armed suspect.

Thompson noticed a second suspect flee and alerted a backup officer while disarming the injured suspect.

IACP states that Thompson's actions are what lead to the loss of no lives during this robbery.

Representative Jodey Arrington posted on Twitter a video of President Donald Trump honoring Officer Thompson:

Border Patrol Agent Jonathon Morales from the US Customs and Border Protection went on to win the Police Chief of the Year Award.
