Kesha Subpoenaed by Dr. Luke’s Lawyers For Recorded Deposition
The singer has reportedly been subpoenaed by Dr. Luke’s attorneys and is set to appear in a New York City court this summer for an on-camera deposition, where she’ll answer questions under oath about the sexual assault and rape claims she brought against the producer, according to a report from The Daily Mail. Dr. Luke may also appear in court when she gives the deposition.
Kesha's legal battle suffered a substantial blow earlier this month, when New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich ruled in favor of Dr. Luke and Sony in the case against them. Kornreich first denied the singer an injunction that would've guaranteed freedom from her contractual obligations with the label. She ruled that because Sony was not ordering Kesha to work specifically with Dr. Luke, there was no reason to release her from her contract, despite claims from Kesha that Sony would ultimately fail to promote her work if she recorded with anyone else.
Then, at a later court date, Kornreich tossed several of Kesha's accusations against the producer out, saying because the alleged offenses took place outside of New York, they could not be examined by the court. She also argued that the statute of limitations had expired for Kesha's 2008 claim against the producer.
Kesha's deposition is set to take place in June.
