Texas Tech’s Jordyn Brooks Is Starting to Get National Attention
Texas Tech's brightest spot in the 2019 season has been the play of senior linebacker Jordyn Brooks, who's being noticed nationally.
This week, Brooks was named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is presented to the NCAA's best defensive player.
Brooks joins two other Big 12 players on the list: Oklahoma's Neville Gallimore and Kenneth Murray. Of the 20 semifinalists, Jordyn is just one of six linebackers. Brooks leads the Big 12 with 87 tackles and has 15.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble. Those 15.5 TFLs are more than any other linebacker in the country.
His play is also being noticed by NFL scouts and decision makers when it comes to the Senior Bowl and NFL Draft.
According to texastech.com, in addition to the Bednarik Award, Brooks is also a member of watch lists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (top defensive player nationally) and the Butkus Award (top linebacker). He was named a second team Midseason All-American two weeks ago by the likes of The Athletic and Athlon Sports.
