My favorite musician John Mayer canceled his tour after his vocal cord problems flared up back in March. He said he "had no choice but to take an indefinite break from live performing," and would spend his downtime writing his next album. (I for one cannot wait for just a clip of something new from John)
I am sorry to report that he told Ellen yesterday that things have not improved.
He said, quote,

"I can't sing so I'm writing, it's a thing in my throat. It's not a health concern whatsoever, but it has taken me out of singing. Tried to beat it the first time and couldn't."

John talked about intentionally keeping a low profile over the past couple years. This came right after two interviews in 2010 with "Playboy" and "Rolling Stone", where he said Jessica Simpson was "sexual napalm", dropped the N-word  and blamed his split with Jennifer Aniston on his frequent Tweeting.

--He said, quote,

"It was a very strange time and it sort of rocketed me into adulthood. It was a violent crash into being an adult. For a couple of years it was just figuring it all out, and I'm glad I actually stayed out of the spotlight. "The plan that originally gets you out of high school and your hometown, in front of people, that plan was over. I had done it. I just sort of lost my head for a little while. I did some kind of dumb interviews and that woke me up."

Does it get any more real than John Mayer? I look forward to a lifetime of his music. Here is that Interview with Ellen.
