Jennifer Aniston: The ‘Friends’ Cast Hated Theme Song, Fountain-Dancing
From the show's premiere in 1994 — and until its 2004 finale — Friends introduced each episode to the sound of "I'll Be There For You" by The Rembrandts while the cast splashed around a mockup of a fountain in New York City's Central Park. It looked like the actors were having a ball, but in a new interview with BBC's The One Show, Aniston insisted it was simply not the case.
"No one was really a big fan of that theme song,” she said. “We felt it was a little, I don't know, dancing in a pond, a fountain felt sort of odd, but we did it."
Still, Aniston can't deny she's got great memories of the show, and said she's recently been sucked back into watching reruns. And 12 years after the final episode aired, she admitted even she's having trouble piecing certain stories and plot lines together.
"Yeah! I can’t help it," she said. "First, I’m trying to remember which episode it is and half the time I’m saying to myself, ‘I don’t remember that.’ You get sucked into the nostalgia of it.”
