The mystery and intrigue that has been surrounding Pottermore was revealed this morning as J.K. Rowling took to the Pottermore YouTube page and the Pottermore website to make the long awaited announcement. A new online experience for Harry Potter fans is here.

Pottermore, the mysterious website that recently popped up, fueled rumors for fans of the Potter series that Rowling might be working on new material. This rumor turned out to be somewhat of a reality.

No, Rowling will not actually be writing new adventures for Harry and friends, but she will be supplying new ways to readers to experience Harry Potter.

"It's the same story with a few crucial additions. The most important one is you," says Rowling in her announcement video.

This will be a way that fans of the series can add their takes, their background insight and their own original ideas for Potter. Rowling will also join in on the online experience by providing additional information she claimed to be hoarding for years.

Pottermore will also have digital audio books and ebooks on their website.

Fans of the Potter series may also submit their email address to register early for the websites. A lucky few will also be selected to enter the website early to help shape the Pottermore experience. This writer will be submitting his email in hope of being one of the lucky few.

Pottermore should launch later this year in October. No exact date has been given on the launch. You can still get your Harry Potter fix though as the final movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2, will be released on July 15 in 3-D.
