Measle Cases Rising in El Paso, TX: 8 Cases Confirmed
It was only a few weeks ago, one week into Apri to be exactly, when we first reported that El Paso had its first confirmed measles case.
Well, fast forward to today and that one confirmed case has now risen to 8 confirmed cases!
Heads up, El Paso: the measles outbreak just leveled up
According to KVIA, The City of El Paso has confirmed three new measles cases, bringing the total to eight.
The latest cases include an unvaccinated baby girl, a vaccinated teenage boy, and a woman in her 30s whose vaccine history is MIA. Oh—and one of those cases? It’s been linked to Hanks High School in East El Paso.
Ysleta ISD confirmed the school case on April 14 and is now going full CSI with contact tracing and deep-cleaning all campuses. With over 34,000 students enrolled and only 0.6% unvaccinated, officials say most students are still well protected.
Health officials also dropped a list of exposure locations where people may have been exposed:
📍 Peter Piper Pizza (5230 E. Paisano) – 3/28 from 1–5 p.m.
📍 Kohl’s at Bassett Center – 3/31 (9 a.m.–8 p.m.) and 4/3 (9 a.m.–7 p.m.)
If you were at any of these places and now have a fever and rash combo? Call your doctor or dial the Measles Hotline: (915) 212-HELP.
With over 500 cases statewide and rising numbers in New Mexico, Juárez and Chihuahua too, health experts say the best protection is still vaccination. Two shots = 97% coverage.
Measles is definitely in town. Wash your hands, check your vax records, and maybe skip that next Kohl’s run or Peter Piper Pizza lunch date.
