El Paso’s 48 Hour Film Project Kicks Off This Weekend!
Today is Friday, October 3rd, and that means the kickoff of El Paso’s 48 Hour Film Project, and yes, I’ve officially lost my mind because I signed up to direct a short film in two days. Two. Days.
For those who don’t know, here’s how this wild ride works: filmmakers from across the city (and some from across the border) gather tonight to get assigned a random genre, character, prop, and line of dialogue. From there, the clock starts ticking. Teams have just 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a complete short film. No pre-planning, no excuses, just a whole lot of caffeine and questionable life decisions.
And this year, I, Grizz, am throwing myself into the madness. That’s right, I’m stepping behind the camera, directing my very own short film. Somewhere deep inside, I’m hoping this turns into a smooth process. But realistically, it’ll probably involve me holding a boom mic upside down, crying over missing footage, and bribing friends with pizza to act like zombies.
Now, if you’re out in El Paso this weekend and you see a group of people in a back alley with cameras, don’t panic. It’s not another Hollywood production sneaking into town. It’s just us, future Spielberg-level filmmakers trying to make art while running on three hours of sleep. Please don’t call the cops if you see actors “dying dramatically” in the middle of a public park. It’s not a crime scene, it’s cinema.

I won’t be doing this alone, though. Joining me is none other than Intern Al, the mastermind behind some of our best and funniest videos for social media. She’s stepping up big time, helping me wrangle this project into something people might actually want to watch. If the film turns out amazing, she gets most of the credit. If it doesn’t? Blame me.
So wish us luck, El Paso. And if you happen to wander past a parking lot and hear someone yelling “Quiet on set!” yeah, that’s probably me losing my mind in real time.
