Just weeks after signing with El Paso Locomotive FC, Cristo Fernández is proving once again that “fútbol is life” both on and off the field.

The actor, filmmaker, and newly signed Locomotive forward is now adding “children’s book author” to his growing résumé with the release of FÚTBOL IS LIFE!/¡FÚTBOL ES VIDA!, which is hitting shelves July 7, 2026.

Best known worldwide for playing the endlessly optimistic Dani Rojas on Ted Lasso, Fernández inspired fans with his iconic catchphrase, “Football is life!” Fun Fact: that’s a line he actually created during his audition for the Emmy Award-winning series. Now, that same positivity is inspiring a new generation through a bilingual picture book aimed at readers ages 4 to 8.

Ted Lasso’s Dani Rojas Turns Real-Life Journey Into Book

Inspired by Fernández’s real-life childhood in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, the story follows “Cristobalito,” a young soccer player forced to rediscover himself after an injury sidelines his dreams. The book explores resilience, embracing change, and finding joy in unexpected paths—something Fernández knows firsthand.

Before becoming an actor, Fernández was pursuing professional soccer until injuries changed the course of his life. That journey eventually led him to acting, filmmaking, and now a professional soccer comeback with El Paso Locomotive FC.

In an interview with People Magazine, Fernández shared that he hopes the book reminds kids and adults alike that their culture, joy, and authenticity are their greatest strengths.
