El Paso Just Lit Up the Star on the Mountain for Cinta De Oro Day
If you were driving up or down I-10 on August 12th then you of course saw the star on the mountain shining bright! Well, did you know that it was shining in honor of a local lucha libre legend?!
Yesterday, El Paso went full lucha libre legend mode for Cinta De Oro Day, a celebration officially proclaimed by the County in 2024 to honor the international wrestling superstar, philanthropist, and former WWE favorite, Sin Cara.
The night’s main event wasn’t in the ring, it was in the sky. The iconic Star on the Mountain lit up in Cinta De Oro’s honor, symbolizing the pride and passion he’s poured into the Sun City through his career and his tireless work with local youth.
But the celebration didn’t stop there. Fans also got a double dose of family milestones: Cinta De Oro’s daughter, Vienna, turned another year older, and his son, Cinta De Oro Jr., was officially announced for his pro wrestling debut on September 6 at La Despedida de El Hijo Del Santo, the only U.S. stop of the lucha libre icon’s farewell tour.
That September event at Ascarate Park was already hyped as a once-in-a-lifetime cultural showdown, and now it's practically a family coronation. With world-class matches, live music, food vendors, artisan markets, and exclusive meet-and-greets. Plus, 100% of the ticket proceeds go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso.
Because in El Paso, lucha libre isn’t just a sport. It's a legacy.
