One of El Paso’s Biggest Art Festivals Is Back, and They Want You to Be Part of It
Chalk the Block is returning to Downtown El Paso this October. For local artists, the spotlight is officially up for grabs.
Now in its 18th year, Chalk the Block has grown into one of the largest public arts festivals in the region. Presented by Raiz Federal Credit Union and hosted by the City of El Paso’s Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD), the event transforms the Downtown Arts District into a living canvas of color, creativity, and community. This year’s celebration takes place October 11–12, and artist applications are now open.
What Is Chalk the Block in El Paso?
If you’ve never been, imagine this: vibrant 3D chalk murals sprawled across downtown sidewalks, immersive art installations, live music, and a sea of El Pasoans soaking in the city’s creative energy. Each year, over 40,000 people attend Chalk the Block, making it a major stage for artists to showcase their skills and connect with a massive audience.
It’s more than an art show. It’s a cultural celebration and a launchpad for local talent.
How to Apply for Chalk the Block 2025
Whether you're a seasoned pro or a high school student just starting out, there's a spot for you. Artists can apply in one of three categories:
Showcase: Advanced artists, ages 18+
Emerging: Intermediate artists, ages 18+
Student: Current high school students
To be considered, all artists must submit their application online through the official Chalk the Block website. The deadline to apply is August 18, and applicants must follow all submission guidelines outlined on the site.
Artists selected to participate will be required to attend a mandatory orientation and commit to scheduled festival hours.
