These Old Photos Absolutely Prove That Amarillo Has Always Been Under Construction

Amarillo has always been under construction.

North, south, east, west, as far as the eye can see--construction.  Major streets, residential streets--construction. Honestly, truly, all of Amarillo is just construction.

The construction in Amarillo has been the bane of our existence, we are all looking for a way to avoid the construction, but from what I've found, you can't avoid it, it's everywhere.  You must be like me and find yourself wondering if there has ever been a time in history where the city hasn't been under siege by construction?

Honestly, probably not. In fact, here's proof Amarillo has always been under construction.

January 1966

This particular picture is near Georgia St back in January 1966.  All that's missing is what you see to the south: Texas Roadhouse, Bubba's 33, Burger King, Roasters, Taco Villa, the Donut Stop, and Wolflin Village. Then then going north: Toot N Totum, Sharky's and Dyers, and the entire business office with Macaroni Joes, Schlotzsky's and more.

June 1958

This picture is from June of 1958 and look they are working on I-27.  This looks to be near the 34th bridge going over I-27. And to be fair, not much as changed....but yet it has.

Not sure what I mean? Here's a view of that same area now.

It's funny how the same construction seems to happen over and over again, here in Amarillo.  They are very traveled roads here in our city.

No matter when or where you go in the city, unfortunately, there will always be road construction.  At least we know our roads are being fixed.  Who knows maybe one day, they will find a way to fix them so they last longer.
