Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer. It's the first day away from school the kids get to take and then dive into summer. Unlike Memorial Day, which is a day set aside to remember those who gave their life in the line of duty, Labor Day is a day for laborers in the US.

The History Behind Labor Day

The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City on Tuesday, September 5, 1882. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Congress passed an act that President Grover Cleveland signed into law on June 28, 1894, saying the first Monday in September would be a legal holiday.

Nowadays, people celebrate Labor Day with a 3-day weekend with parades, parties, lake trips, barbecues, or just being lazy and staying at home binge-watching the next show, while organizations put together events that will entertain the masses on Labor Day Weekend.
