Massive SpaceX Explosion Lights Up Texas Sky During Starship Test
A massive fireball could be seen throughout a part of Texas last night as a SpaceX rocket exploded shortly after 11 pm in Starbase.
Routine testing was going on with Starship at the SpaceX facility as it was preparing for a launch flight when a catastrophic failure occurred.
What Is Starship
This is the rocket that Elon Musk has designed in hopes that they can return astronauts to the moon. He has partnered with NASA in trying to achieve this feat.
It doesn't stop there, though, as Musk has stated previously that if all goes well, this rocket will land robots on Mars in hopes that we will be able to colonize humans on the planet by 2031.
What Happened To The Rocket
As of right now, we don't have an exact answer, but according to officials, Starship “experienced a major anomaly while on a test stand at Starbase”.
Further comment on the explosion stated the rocket “suffered a catastrophic failure and exploded.” Thankfully, the area was completely clear and there were no injuries reported, with everyone working on the test accounted for.
Is This The First Explosion Of Starship
Sadly, it is not. On three different occasions just this year, the rocket has exploded on launch, causing major air-traffic issues because of the debris.
However, it is important to note that the rocket model has indeed had some successful launches in the past, but recently the success hasn't been there.

What Are The Concerns With The Rocket
The main concern is the ability to refuel in orbit due to its massive size. When you factor in the Super Heavy booster, the rocket stands 394 feet. The overall reliability of it during the orbital refueling process has many concerned.
It seems we are still a ways away from this rocket being able to deliver on its hopes of sending astronauts back to the moon, and even further away from landing anything on Mars.
