The amount of rain Texas has been receiving has been very out of the ordinary, and it's not just the rain, it's the amount of severe thunderstorms that have been hitting the state.

We've seen more tornadoes, hail, and flooding across the entire state than we usually do. It's caused plenty of damage, and some unrest with the uncertainty of when another storm will hit.

What Is Causing The Texas Storms

Well, it's a combination of factors, not just one particular thing. One of the main factors is tied to the Gulf of Mexico.

There is a steady stream of moisture coming from it, and because of our proximity to it, we're becoming the benefactor of all the moisture.

What Other Factors Are Contributing To The Texas Storms

The combination of the warm temperatures and moisture from the Gulf is creating an unstable atmosphere, thus making it unpredictable and creating these strong storms out of nowhere.

The jet stream is another big issue as it was parked right over Texas and that was bringing some of the disturbances that was creating all the severe storms we were seeing.

How Much Rain Has Fallen In Texas

According to Newsweek, many of the places in Texas that were in a drought are no longer in that status. Normal rainfall averages wouldn't have been enough to bring places out of it, but many cities were experiencing their monthly rainfall totals over the course of 48 hours.

That is what is causing all the flooding as well. The ground doesn't have time to absorb the rainfall, therefore the flooding happens since the ground can't accept the amount of rain it's causing.

When Are The Texas Storms Supposed To End

We could still se a few more over the course of the month, but many places in Texas are starting to work their way out of the threat of more rainfall and severe storms.

When the rain does come though, it will most likely cause a bit more flooding and some of those storms could be severe. However, it seems the worst of it is behind us.
