Will Matthew McConaughey run in American Politics Soon?
Could we see "Governor McConaughey" in the future? That reality may be closer than we think as the Hollywood star made remarks towards a potential campaign in the recent meeting of the National Governor's Association (NGA).
Back in 2022, McConaughey teased the idea of running for governor of Texas but ultimately dropped the ambition when the time came for campaigning.
Fast-forward to this summer, and he flirted with the notion once more.
What is know is that McConaughey is keeping his cards close to his chest. He has yet to reveal what party he would run in, Democrat or Republican. His political interests, however, were laid out by the star in the NGA meeting
Matthew McConaughey's political views
Ol' M.M. stated that, above all else, his primary objective is to reel back on the harsh rhetoric in national politics. He even brought up its effect in the movie industry throughout Hollywood, saying "my industry has to watch its tongue out of the gate" due to the majority of actors and directors affiliating with the left side of politics.
McConaughey included that those in the entertainment industry are often guilty of invalidating opinions from the middle or right.
Multiple governors from across the country during the meeting chimed in on tips and nuggets of wisdom, including Hawaii Gov. Josh Green who emphasized the importance of not letting the pressure from one side or the other influence your affiliation.
McConaughey claimed that politicians are so media-driven that they lose sight of the spirit of competition with others and thoughtful debate in general. He stated that "If I invalidate your position off the bat, that's a lack of courage on my part. Right out of the gate, that's not real confrontation."
With that being said, what do you think? Would you consider casting a ballot for candidate McConaughey in the future? Certainly something to look out for.
