Will A Winter Storm Bring Snow To Lubbock Next Week?

If you thought winter was somehow over and thought there was no way we would see winter weather again this season, it might be time to unpack those winter jackets. A cold front looks like it could come through the area on Tuesday morning and bring storms to much of the state.

While much of the state could see rain, those of us in Lubbock and north into the panhandle could see snow on Tuesday morning. KAMC is pegging the snow chance at about 40% as of Thursday night but the forecast will change the closer we get to Tuesday. One weather model shows the storm system missing Lubbock, but that's not the model many are looking at. Even the Houston Chronicle was warning readers about travel to Lubbock next week.

The storm is not expected to bring any snow on the Bayou City, but could drop a hazardous amount of wintry mix including snow on other parts of the state, including North Texas and the Panhandle into West Texas.

"If you are planning any travel to North Texas, Oklahoma, or the Panhandles there is a pretty decent chance that snow or ice could be an issue. This is primarily true for Lubbock and Amarillo into Wichita Falls and Oklahoma," Lanza predicted in Friday's forecast.

Lanza also warned that Dallas-Fort Worth and Abilene-area residents should expect some amount of wintry precipitation and be prepared for it to complicate any travel plans on Tuesday.

While it's too early to tell if Lubbock will get snow Tuesday and way too early to predict how much snow will fall if it does fall, be ready for travel delays on the road and through the air.
