A Warm Start to 2026 for Texas, But A Cold Front Could Soon Change Things
It's a brand new year, but the weather outside doesn't feel like it's early January in Texas. And for the next few days, high temperatures across the State of Texas will be much warmer than the average for this time of year. But for those who want cold weather, a change might be coming by the end of the week.
Texas Heats Up Early This Week
Across Texas, temperatures are expected to top out in the 70's and even low 80's during the early part of this week. The high temperatures are much above the normal average that we see in early January across Texas.
Places like Austin and San Antonio are likely to see high temperatures in the low 80's all the way through Thursday, but that's when things are forecasted to change.
Cold Fronts Heading For Texas
According to the National Weather Service out of Amarillo a cold front could push through the Panhandle and South Plains and into the rest of the state by the end of the week. This could mean that temperatures in the panhandle will top out in the 40's going into the weekend and in and around Lubbock, high temperatures may only be in the 50's.
Right now forecasts do show the northern parts of the state cooling off starting on Thursday with the DFW area cooling down over the weekend.
Will It Snow In Texas Soon?
Will a cold front could produce precipitation, the chances of snow outside of the panhandle anytime soon doesn't look promising. Most forecast continue to show most of Texas remaining dry for the foreseeable future.
