The Latin Breed Is Bringing “A Tejano Night To Remember” To Lubbock
It's going to be "A Tejano Night to Remember" at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences on August 11, 2023 as one of the most influential bands in the history of Tejano music will perform in Lubbock. The Latin Breed featuring Bobby G. and the Galaxy Band along with special guest Arturo Sedeno will perform on August 11 at 7:30 p.m.
The group was founded on the south side of San Antonio in 1969 by former Sunny and the Sunliners saxophone player Rudy Guerra. The band went through some changes and in 1972, Jimmy Edward became the new frontman according to a press release from Buddy Holly Hall.
The press release from Buddy Holly Hall describes the sound of the band including their "unique mix of jazz".
The band's website describes, “the evolution of that sound before the movement, or the movimiento, as many prefer to call it, there was the Texas Mexican orchestra, which took traditional Mexican boleros and rancheras and added full-blown arrangements for glittering horn sections, strings and a R&B rhythms and percussion.
Following in the footsteps of Texas bred Little Joe & the Latinaires, which morphed into Little Joe y La Familia, San Antonio's 'Breed' embraced the idea that Chicanos were mestizos (a term traditionally used to describe people of mixed European and Native American heritage), who represented a Spanish and indigenous identity that would no longer allow itself to be denied, ignored or belittled."
The Latin Breed also offers a unique mix of jazz which resulted in such hits as: "Ay Mujer," "Que Chulos Ojos," "Don Luis El Tejano" and "Todos Dicen."
Tickets for The Latin Breed go on sale on Friday, February 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Tickets range in price starting at $35.00 and go up to $100.00. Tickets can be purchased at Buddy Holly Hall and on their website.
