Texas Just Unveiled Their One-of-a-Kind AI Anti-Drone Technology
If we need further proof that the future is sooner than we thought, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has officially become the first law enforcement agency in America to deploy this cutting-edge tech that responds to drone threats in Texas skies.
What is Texas' New Anti-Drone System?
DPS has announced the debut of the Airborne Counter Unmanned Aircraft Systems (ACUS). This fancy piece of technology is designed not only to detect foreign drones entering the airspace, but also to coordinate a response for the sake of public safety.
Chief pilot of DPS' Aircraft Operations Division Stacy Holland provided further details on this massive feat:
Integrating ACUS into our aviation fleet gives us the ability to quickly detect, identify and avoid hostile or unauthorized drones — protecting our aircrews ground personnel and the communities we serve.
How Does Texas' New Drone System Work?
So far, the new system is installed in only one helicopter, and although it's intended to be unmanned, flight officers will still be needed to interpret the real-time data while in flight.
The new technology is so advanced that the ACUS will not only alert pilots and dispatch teams of any threats, but also provide exact location of both the drone and its operator.
Also, the ACUS is strictly for information-gathering, meaning it isn't equipped with any weapons to destroy potentially dangerous drones. The information sent to ground dispatch will be used in potential steps taken to deploy destructive measures.
You can learn more about the new ACUS from the Texas DPS website.
Texas is always improving its threat mitigation tactics, and this new anti-drone technology is just the latest in store for public safety.
