Lubbock Man Arrested After Crashing Car Into Woman and Child
A Lubbock man was arrested after reports state he intentionally used a vehicle to try to cause harm to a woman and child. The Lubbock Police Department was dispatched on August 31st to 114th Street and University Avenue after reports of a crash in the area.
KAMC news reports that the crash was not accidental but may have been intentional according to a woman involved in the crash. That woman did report that she attempted to escape from 29-year-old Jose Rodriguez II while he was at work. Before the crash the female victim was talking with Rodriguez on the phone as she drove northbound along University Avenue. It was during this time that Rodriguez was driving southbound down University Avenue and passed the female victim as he stated over the phone that he found her, while calling her a derogatory expletive.
Rodriguez then drove across the center turning lane of University Avenue to get to the victim and then struck the other vehicle in a head-on collision. After the Lubbock Police Department responded to the crash they spoke to the victim who told officers that Rodriguez intentionally tried to kill her. The female victim was not the only person in the car at the time of the crash but also had her child with her, both were transported to University Medical Center for their injuries.
Rodriguez was arrested and charged with two separate counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon due to the vehicle being used. As per the publishing of this article, Rodriguez remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
