Lubbock County Clerk Launches Free Tool To Fight Property Fraud
The Lubbock County Clerk's Office recently made a major announcement regarding property fraud crimes. A new service has been adopted that allows citizens to avoid becoming victims of losing their property, titles, and more to thieves stealing their identities.
Lubbock Property Fraud: Not a Victimless Crime
Lubbock County is partnering with Tyler Technologies to create a service called Fraud Notify. What does it do? For those who sign up, Fraud Notify allows citizens to protect their property ownership.
Here's how it works. When you sign up for Fraud Notify, you will be sent an automated email alert every time a document registered under your name in the County Clerk's Office is recorded. Yes, the service is completely free to the public.
This way, you can confirm if the documents accessed were actually from you or if they were an attempt to access private information from a thief. Then, you will need to visit the County Clerk's Office (904 Broadway Room 207) in person to review the documents and confirm if it was you who accessed them or not.
The documents protected under Fraud Notify include deeds, deeds of trust, liens, and notices. Here's the kicker: court case filings are not included under this new service.
Citizens with questions or who wish to learn more about Fraud Notify are invited to email countyclerk@lubbockcounty.gov or call (806) 775-1076.
