Joyless: Here’s What Joyland Amusement Park In Lubbock Looks Like Now
Have you seen the old Joyland Amusement Park location recently?
On Saturday after the Egg-Stravaganza that was held at the Mae Simmons Community Center, I decided to take a drive through the Canyon Lakes. While it was cold and rainy, it was still a beautiful drive.
And that's when I came upon the "old" location of Joyland. As you likely know, Joyland Amusement Park closed at the end of the 2022 season and during 2023 the rides were largely liquidated and sent elsewhere. According to a report from KAMC in February, many of the rides were sold to parks across the world.
Shurgott tells us the retired rides’ are being sent to amusement parks all over the world, from Kentucky to Mexico, and even overseas to England. While it can be sad to see the rides go, Shurgott said it’s also heartwarming to keep the joy of those rides alive.
Now what is left of Joyland Amusement Park located in Mackenzie Park, is mainly just a shell of what once was. The rides are gone. Some buildings remain but for the most part, the park that brought joy to so many is gone. Below you can see pictures of Joyland in its current state.
So what is next for the location? No word yet from the City of Lubbock on what is going to be built there, if anything.
