Coming off of a fantastic season, Texas Tech Football head coach Joey McGuire has officially been named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Board of Trustees. Yes, it's a big deal.

Why Should I Care About This?

Great question. Even if you don't fully keep up with college sports, it's still a great honor to be a part of such a respected and historic association. The AFCA has been around since 1922 and provides coaching support and resources to college campuses across the country.

McGuire joins five other esteemed coaches in the recent announcement from Texas Tech Athletics to formulate "policy and guidance" based on his years of successful experience in college football.

McGuire noted how much of an honor this is for him to be included in the esteemed Board of Trustees:

I believe strongly in bringing solutions to problems. College football is at a pivotal stage of change, and I look forward to working with the AFCA on how we can continue to push this great game forward.

The announcement on Tuesday that named McGuire to the Board of Trustees also included five other notable coaches: New Mexico's Jason Eck, San Diego State's Sean Lewis, Montana State's Brent Vigen, Michigan State's Pat Fitzgerald, and Old Dominion's Ricky Rahne.

Texas Tech's Successful Season

This news comes after the Red Raiders finish a historic season, claiming their first Big 12 Conference title and appearing in the College Football Playoff for their first time in history.

Finishing this past season at 12-2 overall, the Red Raiders also ended their year while ranked in the Associated Press top 10 list as well as USA Today's coaches poll—another first-time feat for the program.

All in all, I think we can all agree that congratulations are in order for Joey McGuire. May both he and Texas Tech football continue to excel in the countless challenges and accomplishments to come.
