Tesla Beware: Another EV Production Company Moves From California to Texas
A California-based EV company is hitting the gas on their plans to relocate their HQ from California to Justin, TX--Don't worry, I had to look up where Justin was, as well.
The city of Justin, in Denton County, has a population of just over 5,500, according to the 2022 census, and will soon be the new base for the electric vehicle manufacturer Canoo.
Justin Time
There is already a corporate office in Justin, TX that has been there for a few years, and now they will get a whole lot bigger.
An issue that is coming to light involves the current employees in California, do they have assured positions when the HQ relocates to Justin?... Nope!
According to a reorganization plan from the company, they have offered 137 of the 194 employees to relocate from the LA area to North Texas. This massive move is expected to cost Canoo about $3 million in severance pay and benefits alone.
Apparently, the news is not entirely shocking, as the company has seen a noticeable shift ever since Co-Founder Richard Kim left in 2023. The decision was finalized after the CEO determined they could stay afloat, as it were, in the massive market that is Texas.
The California Wave
Canoo is just one of the more recent companies who are moving their headquarters from California to the Lone Star State. Just recently, EV giant Tesla announced their move as well.
Other notable companies who left California for Texas include the following:
- SpaceX
- Chevron
- Hewlett-Packard
- Oracle
