The future is here! Well, it's on its way at least. It's been announced that Dallas will roll out robot-to-drone deliveries within the coming months.

Serve Robotics Inc., a robot delivery company, has announced in a press release that they are partnering with Wing, a drone delivery company. Dallas is just one of of the cities that this experiment will take place.

How Does it Work?

Great question! So, Serve Robotics is currently limited to only a two-mile radius. Partnering with Wing and their drones gives Serve an opportunity to expand their delivery radius while simultaneously having an eye in the sky for some assistance.

Through utilization of a dock called an Autoloader, the robot will pass the food along from the restaurant to the drone. Here's what these Autoloaders look like-

Aren't the little robot arms just adorable? Anyways, once the drone is able to pick up the order, it will fly to customers as far as six miles away. Not a huge difference in radius, but certainly better than two.

The best part? Deliveries can be picked up at any time after the robot drops it off. So... here's to hoping your order doesn't get cold waiting on the drone who overslept and missed his alarm.

Today, Wing works with various Walmarts in the Dallas area, but CEO Adam Woodworth stated that these trials will NOT involve Walmart. Bummer.

So, what do you think? You can't deny it wouldn't be awesome to wake up, order a burrito, step outside and have your order rappelled from a cute little drone just making an honest living.
