Another local restaurant is closing in Lubbock. This time, it's a local pizza and ice cream shop. Pepe's Pizza and Ice Cream will close soon in Lubbock according to a Facebook message to customers and fans.

Pepe's opened in late 2016 in Lubbock and at the time was one of a few local owned and operated pizzerias  Owners Tim and Dusty Murphy poured a lot into making the business thrive for many years. They named the restaurant after Tim Murphy's father. Pepe's Pizza and Ice Cream has remained at 3407 98th St #900 since opening.

On a Facebook message to customers, the owners of Pepe's announced that Sunday, September 3rd will be the final day of operations for Pepe's. The owners did not give a reason behind the closing. Other local restaurants have closed in 2023 and many have pointed to the rising cost of food and other materials needed in the business, and some have pointed to lack of available staff to work. Lubbock also has a pretty competitive pizza market. Not only are the biggest national chains in Lubbock, but the number of local pizzerias has grown in recent years.

It is always sad to see a local business close. The owners poured everything they had into Pepe's Pizza and Ice Cream. We hope that local citizens will send Pepe's away in style and show up while you can and get some pizza from Pepe's. We wish the owners nothing but the best moving forward.
