If you are like me and tired of having mosquitos around, there is a new fix for that in Lubbock.

Lubbock residents can now fill out a request online for whichever mosquito treatment they need such as getting rid of adult mosquitos, larvae breeding area and any advance request for large outdoor public events.

Mosquitoes are common, flying insects that live in most parts of the world. Over 3,700 types of mosquitoes can be found worldwide.

Not all mosquitoes bite people or animals. When mosquitoes bite people, the most common reactions to the bite are itching and swelling.

Springtime is when we start to see mosquitos even more so now is the time to fill in that request. Especially after all the rain we have had.

They really like standing water. That is where mosquitoes can lay their eggs and mosquitoes can hatch out of.

The City’s Vector Control said sending your request online allows the city to have more accurate information and helps them better address issues with mosquitos within the community.

Tips to lower the chance of mosquitoes according to the CDC:

• Once a week, empty and scrub, turn over, cover, or throw out any items that hold water like tires, buckets, planters, toys, pools, birdbaths, flowerpot saucers, or trash containers. Mosquitoes lay eggs near water.
• Tightly cover water storage containers (buckets, cisterns, rain barrels) so mosquitoes cannot get inside to lay eggs.
• For containers without lids, use wire mesh with holes smaller than an adult mosquito.
• Fill tree holes to prevent them from filling with water.
• If you have a septic tank, repair cracks or gaps. Cover open vent or plumbing pipes. Use wire mesh with holes smaller than an adult mosquito.
• Use an outdoor adulticide to kill adult mosquitoes in areas where they rest.
• Mosquitoes rest in dark, humid areas like under patio furniture or under the carport or garage. When using insecticides, always follow label instructions.
