Move over, Punxsutawney Phil—Texas doesn’t need a groundhog to tell us whether spring is coming. We’ve got our very own weather-predicting legend: Bee Cave Bob, a Texas armadillo who makes his forecast every February 2nd in Bee Cave, Texas!

While the rest of the country is waiting for some fancy Pennsylvania varmint to crawl out of his burrow, Texans are looking to Bee Cave Bob to deliver the news with a little Texas flair. The tradition, held just outside of Austin, has grown in popularity over the years, proving that Texas does things our own way—even when it comes to predicting the weather!

Like Punxsutawney Phil, Bee Cave Bob gives us the classic two options:
😎If he doesn’t see his shadow, we’re in for an early spring.
❄️If he does see it, get ready for six more weeks of Texas “winter” (which, let’s be honest, could really mean anything).

Since this is Texas, you never really know what "winter" is going to look like—it could be 75 degrees one day and an ice storm the next. Either way, Bee Cave Bob adds some Texas-sized fun to the annual tradition.

So, whether you trust the old-school Pennsylvania groundhog or you prefer Bee Cave Bob’s armadillo expertise, Groundhog Day in Texas has a new meaning. If Bob predicts six more weeks of winter, we’ll keep our sun screen and flip-flops on standby. If spring is coming early, well—let’s fire up the smoker and get ready for patio season!
