Louisiana Tech Gets Ready For Army’s Historic Visit In 2026
It is not every day you get a service academy football team visiting Ruston, Louisiana. In fact, we can only find one time a service academy came into Ruston to play Louisiana Tech. But that is about to change, as Louisiana Tech fans can look forward to Army West Point visiting the Bulldogs in 2026.
Officials from both programs have confirmed a home-and-home series between the two schools. Which kicks off in Louisiana during the 2026 season. It's actually just one of the exciting non-conference games Louisiana Tech announced today.
Mark your calendars now because this is going to be a massive Saturday in Ruston. The Army Black Knights will march into Joe Aillet Stadium on Saturday, October 3, 2026. This game serves as a rare October non-conference clash that is sure to pack the stands. Because there's one thing Army is better at than running the ball, and its bringing a crowd.
Didn't We Just See Army and Louisiana Tech Play In A Bowl Game?
Anyone who went to the 2024 Independence Bowl in Shreveport can confirm that. The stands off I-20 in Shreveport were loaded with Army logos, as the Black Knights took on...well, Louisiana Tech. Don't forget, Tech stepped up in 2024 when Marshall decided they were shutting their program down for the year, AFTER accepting the Indy Bowl offer. The Bulldogs were not technically bowl eligible, with a 5-4 record, but geographically they were the easiest school to get to Shreveport for the game.
If Tech didn't agree to play Army in Shreveport, there would have been no bowl for Army that year. Which would have been the second time the Indy Bowl and Army were left at the altar.
During the 2020 pandemic season, Army was ready to play in the Independence Bowl, but so many other teams couldn't bring themselves to play, there was no game. So Tech stepping up to make sure the 2024 game happened for Shreveport, the Independence Bowl, and Army definitely earned the respect of the Army football program...which is probably where this home-and-home agreements comes from. The result of that game? Army took the win 27-6
Louisiana Tech Football's History Against Service Academies
Looking at the history books, this series has been incredibly tough for the Bulldogs. Army currently holds a perfect 3-0 record all-time against Louisiana Tech, meaning the Dogs are still hunting for that first win.
We already talked about these two meeting at the 2024 Independence Bowl in Shreveport. Before that, they met in 2013 at the Cotton Bowl, and back in 2008. But 2026 will mark the first time Army has ever played in Ruston.
Going back to look at Tech's record against all of the service academies, it turns out they've struggled across the board. The Bulldogs have never played Air Force (never got a WAC matchup), and have only played Navy 3 times. But they did beat Navy, one time. That was the 2016 Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. Final score of that game was 48-45, and remains the only victory Tech has over a service academy program.
Navy is another first-and-only for Tech when it comes to service academy programs. There's only been one service academy school to play a game in Ruston...which was Navy in 2010.
