The Craziest New Orleans Saints Stat From Sunday
The New Orleans Saints got their first win of the 2025 NFL season on Sunday. They defeated the visiting New York Giants 26-14, which brought the Saints record to 1-4 on the season.
Sure, the Saints scored a season-high 26 points in the win. The 87 yard touchdown from Spencer Rattler to Rashid Shaheed was the 5th longest play in Saints history (tied for the 5th at least). Then we got to see Taysom Hill return from a serious injury to complete a pass in his first game back.
But none of those are the crazy stat.
What Wild Quarterback Streak Did The Saints Just Break?
Spencer Rattler was the winning quarterback for the Saints. It was his first NFL win, moving his career record to 1-10 over the last two years.
Last year, Rattler was a rookie for the Saints, and started 6 games for a team in transition. He was given the full time job before the season, after Derek Carr suddenly retired, and the Saints drafted Tyler Shough in the second round of the NFL Draft.
Rattler was drafted by the Saints in the 5th round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Meaning that this weekend's win was the first win by a Saints drafted quarterback since 1998.

You read that right. There hasn't been a quarterback drafted by the Saints, who won a game for the Saints, since 1998. That's right, 27 years since the Saints saw one of their own draft picks win a game at quarterback.
Who Was The Last Quarterback Drafted By The Saints Who Won A Game For Them?
Let's look at the suspects. The obvious name people would ask about first is Drew Brees, but he was drafted by the San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers. The last QB before Rattler with a win, Derek Carr, was drafted by the Oakland (now Las Vegas) Raiders. Not Andy Dalton (Drafted by Cincinatti), Jameis Winston (Tampa Bay), Taysom Hill (undrafted), Trevor Siemian (Denver), Teddy Bridgewater (Minnesota), or Aaron Brooks (Green Bay). It wasn't Jeff Blake, Billy Joe Tolliver, Jake Delhomme, Billy Joe Hobert, or Kerry Collins.
The last Saints drafted QB to win a game for the franchise was actually Danny Wuerffel.
In 1997, the Saints drafted Wuerffel in the 4th round of the NFL Draft. His last win for the Saints was in Week 4 of the 1998 season in a 19-13 overtime win against the Indianapolis Colts. Interestingly, that Colts team was led by a rookie quarterback from New Orleans, named Peyton Manning.
