If you ventured through downtown Shreveport this past Saturday, you likely noticed a significant gathering heading towards the Caddo Courthouse. Shreveport served as one of the host cities for the recent "No Kings" protests. While exact figures vary, with some residents claiming between 1,000 and nearly 2,000 attendees, it's clear that hundreds of locals converged at the courthouse from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to make their voices heard.

Shreveport was far from alone in its participation in the "No Kings" protests. According to USA Today, over 2,000 demonstrations were planned nationwide, with the vast majority unfolding peacefully. Shreveport residents gathered for a range of reasons, including protesting President Trump, advocating for immigrant rights, and supporting the broader protection of democracy. Shreveport Police Department and Caddo Parish Deputies were present at the demonstration, ensuring the protest remained peaceful

Benton resident Mel Holt, who attended the protest with several friends, described it as a truly united front. "The protest felt united in the kindest way," Holt shared. "So many people were out there protesting a lot of injustice that’s going on in our world today, and having the space to do that openly and freely surrounded by hundreds of people made it feel really special." Hall emphasized a personal duty to attend: "I went because I know people personally who have been attacked with cruel words and accusation, and I feel that I have a duty to my friends and people in the community that I care about to show up in this most necessary time."

Ringgold resident Aimee Bubbliss felt deeply inspired after attending the "No Kings" protest. "This was my first protest, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The turnout in Shreveport truly blew me away," she shared. "People from all walks of life came together peacefully to take a stand. I was especially moved by the veterans who showed up and reminded us that the fight for liberty doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. It was so powerful and inspiring to witness, and a clear reminder that this country and its people were never meant to kneel to a king, only to rise for liberty and justice for all."
