Fraudulent Parking Tickets Reported in Shreveport: Don’t Fall for it
The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) is investigating a series of fake parking citations appearing on vehicles throughout the city. These counterfeit tickets are designed to scam citizens by directing them to a fraudulent payment website. The tickets feature a QR code that, when scanned, takes people to a fake site where they are prompted to enter their payment information.
How to Spot a Fake Citation
Police are urging the public to be vigilant and know the difference between a real ticket and a fake one. The SPD wants to remind everyone that they do not issue parking violations on construction paper. Also, the SPD will never direct you to pay fines through apps like Venmo. If you encounter one of these fraudulent citations, do not scan the QR code or attempt to make a payment. Anyone responsible for this scam could face criminal charges, including forgery and theft.
What to Do if You Have Information
The investigation is ongoing, and the SPD is asking for the public's help. If you have received one of these fake citations, saw someone placing them on vehicles, or have photos or video of the suspect, please contact the Shreveport Police Department at 318-673-7300. You can also submit anonymous tips through Caddo Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for information that leads to the identification and arrest of suspects.
