It's about to be a full two years since I started the whole delivery driver side gig here in Amarillo. I am still doing it pretty much a little bit every day. I have lost some love for it, but I haven't stopped.

They have made it a little more difficult to be excited about it with the low driver pay and high driver expectations. I am that person who likes to keep a platinum status. When the goal was to be a top dasher, the numbers were a little easier to maintain.

That was when I only needed to keep a seventy for acceptance rate, and now for Amarillo, it is eighty. I say Amarillo, because every city and area is different. A lot of places still just need seventy, but not us.

How DoorDash Expectations Changed

With DoorDash pretty much only guaranteeing a payment of two dollars a delivery, we do tend to count on tips. I understand that high fees can make customers feel less inclined to tip. That is where DoorDash really should up their pay.

Like I said, the fees are high. The menu prices on the menu are higher if you order through the app. All the way around, it is costly to have food delivered. So I get it, but it is also a convenience, and people should expect to pay more for that convenience.

That being said, I focus on doing just enough to earn some money. I go out and deliver so that I have stuff to talk about, but I am not going above and beyond for the company. They don't care.

It's a numbers game, and I always keep my numbers up. I keep my acceptance rate over eighty, and my customer ratings are always high. What I have to keep up with on a daily basis is my number of deliveries.

Maintaining Platinum Status

To stay a platinum deliverer and keep the ability to deliver whenever I want, I have to keep my deliveries at over one hundred in the past thirty days. So I keep a list of how many I have done each day for the past thirty days. My goal is I just do enough deliveries to never drop below one hundred.

I still make some money, and I can deliver whenever I want,  and that is truly my only motivation.
