Ace & Chicora Want to Meet You! Red Wolf Day at The Texas Zoo
If you’ve never made eye contact with a red wolf before, this is your sign.
This Saturday, May 10, The Texas Zoo is throwing a little party for some of their coolest (and most endangered) residents: Ace and Chicora, their two red wolves.
From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Zoo will have Keeper Chats where you can learn more about red wolves and the conservation efforts.
Bring the whole family out to the Texas Zoo
This is not just another day at the zoo, there will be a lineup of children’s activities for the young and the young at heart!
Admission to the event is included with your regular ticket. So swing by, learn something, make a craft, and say hi to two of the coolest canines you’ll ever meet.

Fun facts about the red wolf.
Red wolves once roamed all over the Southeast, but due to habitat loss and other not-so-fun reasons, fewer than 20 remain in the wild today. The Texas Zoo is part of a growing movement to protect and rebuild the red wolf population—and this event helps make that mission accessible, educational, and yes, fun.
1. The Red Wolf is closely related to the coyote and the grey wolf
Red wolves share many similarities with grey wolves and coyotes.
2. Red Wolves are carnivores but may eat fruits when hungry
Red wolves are skilled predators and can catch animals as large as deer but they will also feed on carrion, as well as berries when prey is in short supply.
3. Red Wolves are endangered
The red wolf (Canis lupus rufus) is a critically endangered species native to the southeastern United States.
