THE BRUTAL MURDER OF PROFESSIONAL CYCLIST
Kaitlin Armstrong has been held in Travis County Correctional Complex for the past year after being charged with the brutal murder of professional cyclist, Moriah Wilson.
43 DAYS AT LARGE IN COSTA RICA
Armstrong who previously dated Wilson's boyfriend, allegedly shot Wilson in the head and chest. After being charged with murder, Armstrong managed to flee the country and was at large for 43 days, until she was ultimately captured by the U.S. Marshals at a hostel in Costa Rica.
UTILIZING DOCTORS APPOINTMENT IN AUSTIN
On October 13, 2023, Armstrong managed to escape custody, again. As Armstrong was being escorted back to the patrol car after her doctor's appointment in Austin, Texas, she found a moment to make the move.
ESCAPING DEPUTIES AFTER APPOINTMENT
According to Travis County sheriff's spokeswoman Kristen Dark, "Two deputies were escorting Armstrong back to the patrol car when suddenly she took off running," it is unclear whether she was handcuffed at the time.
Armstrong ran off towards an Austin neighborhood and managed to travel about a block. Police were able to quickly detain her, Dark said Armstrong remained within the deputies' eyesight during the minutes she was out of custody.
PLOTTING HER ESCAPE
Evidence may prove Armstrong had been plotting this escape for months. As investigators were searching inside Armstrong's cell they found "a metal pin that had been broken off, providing a solid thin metal piece that likely could be used to manipulate a handcuff to be removed."
Jail staff also said "Armstrong had recently utilized an injury complaint to secure an outside medical appointment as well as a medical request restricting the use of leg restraints."
