Talking about death row inmates and the crimes that got them there is a pretty dark subject, no doubt. However, the true crime history behind the stories can be interesting, especially when they have local ties. As it turns out, I came across one of those stories the other day.

The Man That's Been Waiting on Death Row the Longest is from Angelina County

According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website, there's a man that's been on death row since October 26, 1977. His name is Harvey Earvin. The interesting part of the story? He's from Angelina County.

According to the TDCJ report, in December 1976, Earvin dressed up in a wig and fake mustache, then he and his girlfriend proceeded to go behind a gas station on Raguet street in Lufkin to rob the station attendant who was taking the cash that had been collected during the day to his car. Earvin shot him in the chest with a shotgun, then fled the scene. He was later arrested and convicted for what TDCJ describes as "robbery and slaying" of the attendant.

Again, I know that the story is dark and gruesome, but the tie to Deep East Texas makes it pretty interesting, at least in my opinion.

Harvey Earvin's Current Inmate Status

Harvey Earvin has been on death row since 1977, and his execution date is still not listed as scheduled. He is also the only Deep East Texas inmate listed on the death row list, out of 162 inmates that are waiting, and two inmates whose executions have been scheduled.
