The Nacogdoches Police Department has been very busy over the past week. From keeping protests peaceful to dealing with an entire family found dead from possible carbon monoxide poisoning, they have faced some challenging situations.

What they do every day is a huge service to this community. The first to criticize are usually the first to call them in an emergency.

I usually highlight the felons that have been arrested in Nacogdoches County here, and there are mugshots at the end of this story, but this time I want to talk about the Nacogdoches Law Enforcement Foundation.

Nacogdoches Organization Supports Officers' Mental Health

The troubling things officers see and must do daily are hard, and the Nacogdoches Law Enforcement Foundation is increasing the support that they are given.

According to the Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel, the non-profit recently supplied the Nacogdoches Police Department with 57 individual first aid kits and stop bleeding training. The Lufkin and Nacogdoches Junior Forum funded the kits.

They also announced a program that will begin supporting the mental health of officers, dispatchers, and their families. The foundation supports all Nacogdoches area law enforcement agencies.

They are partnering with Operation True North in Longview, a nonprofit that specializes in mental health services for first responders and veterans.

The program will give officers access to free and confidential counseling for themselves, their families, and more.

The organization also helps cover expenses for injured officers through the grants and donations they receive.
