Tasers or stun guns are used for pain compliance by many officers in law enforcement. LPD tests all of their new officers as part of training on the stun gun, so they will know what it feels like and how to recover quickly in an emergency.

Jonas Guy thinks so and has just become Lufkin's newest police officer. Guy graduated from the Angelina College Police Academy on May 19.

According to the Lufkin Police Department via Facebook, he was presented with his graduation certificate by his father-in-law, Chris Carroll, an investigator with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office, and he earned the fitness award for his class.
He was sworn in as a Lufkin Police Officer on May 21 by Mayor Mark Hicks. Then yesterday on June 3, 2025, he officially added himself to the ranks by getting tased.
