City Upgrades Amarillo Bus Stops In 2025

The City of Amarillo has been tackling a lot of projects this summer. There have been several road construction projects that have happened or are ongoing, the resurfacing of the playground at John Ward Memorial (Medi) Park, and one more is underway.

You might not have noticed this one, but it's been happening since May of this year. The City of Amarillo is tackling some of the bus stops in the city.

The City of Amarillo posted updates on social media today (June 20, 2025) regarding work taking place to upgrade several bus stops. According to their post, work began on May 12 of this year and is scheduled to last for 150 working days.

Why Are Amarillo Bus Stops Being Upgraded?

The bus stops included in the upgrade project are:

Warford Center
NW 9th & Travis
NW 14th & Travis
NW 16th & Bonham

As long as the weather plays nice, these upgrades should be finished sooner rather than later. That might be tough considering how unpredictable the weather is in Amarillo.

The reason for the upgrades, according to the information posted by the City, is that they need to be brought up to current ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards. This will supposedly make them safer and easier to access.

What to Expect During the Upgrades

They are demolishing old concrete at each of these bus stops and removing any trash cans, benches, and shelters. Then the stops will be regraded, reinforced with rebar, and get some freshly poured concrete. Amenities will be reinstalled after inspection.

You can't be upset about upgrades like this, even if they're inconvenient for a short amount of time. These bus stops will hopefully be nicer for those using City Transportation once they're finished.

If my math is correct, this project should be completed sometime in early October.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
