I know we have a lot of dog and cat lovers out there.

I also know that a lot of you think, "if I ever win the lottery, I'm going to have a place where I can have MORE dogs and/or cats" (I have heard this SO many times). So what's the actual limit on dogs and cats in Lubbock?

I'm going to be real for a moment, the number is not that unreasonable, but it is a little arbitrary. If you had the maximum amount of dogs and cats, I'm sorry, but that is a bit much. The question is, why split the species equally, rather than allowing you to just have more of one or the other?

So the actual number of pets you can have in Lubbock is four dogs and four cats. Again, I don't know why five dogs and three cats aren't good, or even why five dogs and no cats aren't cool, but the law is four dogs and four cats. Here's the code lifted from the city ordinance:

Except as provided by this section, no residence within the city shall harbor more than four (4) adult dogs and/or four (4) adult cats, over the age of sixteen (16) weeks. No residence within the city shall harbor more than one (1) litter of puppies and/or one (1) litter of kittens.

This is the point where some animal lovers might step in and say things about dogs packing up, or something to that effect. Well, I'm here to tell you that good and bad dogs come from good and bad owners, and it's not always about the "nature" some folks like to preach.

I guess it's kind of good for some of us that the city does put limits on us, then again, resources and time also do it as well. I have four dogs and an outside cat that adopted us. It can be quite a scene when I arrive home with the cat wanting to be fed, then three enormously grateful dogs waiting to greet me.
