On August 22nd, children riding the school bus home from Sealy Junior High School begged their bus driver to allow them to open the windows during a scorching hot bus ride home. Their request was denied.

Temperatures neared triple digits, and the children were sweaty and uncomfortable for the 3-mile bus ride, which usually only takes about 6 minutes. This time, it took 30 minutes. Attorney Harry Daniels believes the bus driver drove slowly and intentionally to cause the children more suffering. The school denies this was the case.

Now, the mother of two students on the bus is suing.

Cell phone video footage of the children begging the bus driver to open the windows has gone viral on the internet. At one point, the driver stops and forces the children who were not complying to put their windows up.

The district has previously received reports about the heat on many buses due to the lack of air conditioning and adjusted the bus route to reduce time spent on dirt roads where bus drivers drive more slowly.

The 11-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl of the mother suing shared footage from a doorbell camera that showed her children bursting into the house after the hot ride. The boy had taken his shirt off, claiming it was too wet.
