Have you ever thought to yourself, "I'm going to murder him/her!"

I'm willing to bet you have. People are emotional creatures. We feel joyous, inspired, depressed, and full of rage- sometimes all in the same day.

What kept you from going through with that feeling? Fear of punishment, divine or earthly, the horror you felt at your feelings, or simply a calm, rational second thought?

For many of the forty people locked up in the Lubbock Detention Center, it's plain to see that emotion led to their alleged crimes.

Throughout the list, you see people who killed their mother, their brother, their lover, their neighbor, and even their grandfather. It's tragic.

Others made different mistakes, like an alleged drunk driver who took two strangers out of this world instead of getting an Uber. Some alleged killings were as senseless as arguments over drugs, or during a fight.

Some people allegedly murdered during another crime- like the girl who was only 17 when the robbery/ beating death of a 50-year-old man occurred. Some potentially killed in groups, while others acted alone.

Each of these 40 faces tells an alleged story full of mistakes, bad ideas, and toxic emotions. One man even allegedly went on a rampage, seemingly killing at random.

Of course there very well may be innocent people on this list, perhaps even completely innocent- themselves a victim, right now.

It also depends on how you define "innocence." Would you consider extenuating circumstances? Is every killing always a murder? Or were some of these people justified?

Luckily, our justice system has "degrees" of killing, like the most heinous capital murder, down to manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide.

As you look at this list, I encourage you to examine your own emotions, and your own behaviors and to think:

"Could this ever be me?"

What Is A Day Like In Texas Prisons? A View From Both Sides Of The Bars

Have you ever wondered what life inside a Texas prison is really like? I asked friends who are correction officers and folks who have volunteered at jails. I also asked former inmates, and browsed forums and articles with current and former inmates. Put all together, it paints what I hope is a fairly accurate picture of daily prison life in Texas.
