United Supermarkets Launches Aisles of Smiles for MDA
Once again, our friends at United Supermarkets are stepping up for the community.
United Supermarkets Is Helping Fight Muscular Dystrophy
Starting today, United is kicking off its Aisles of Smiles campaign to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and its work helping people living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other neuromuscular diseases.
This campaign doesn't just promote awareness; it gives you a chance to be part of the process. When you check out, you can add any dollar amount to your purchase to help support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. A buck, five bucks, whatever you can spare can become part of something much bigger.
The fight against muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases has been a long and difficult one, but there's a lot of reason for hope.
First off, we should point out that muscular dystrophy isn't just one thing. It's actually a group of different genetic diseases, and researchers have now identified the genes responsible for many of them. Knowing exactly where things are going wrong is a huge part of the battle. Instead of just treating symptoms, researchers can increasingly focus on what's actually broken and look for ways to repair it, replace it, or work around it. There's still a long way to go, but it really does feel like we're on a road toward knocking these diseases out one by one.
If all of this seems a little familiar to you, then congratulations, you probably grew up watching the Jerry Lewis Labor Day MDA Telethon just like I did. For decades, that thing was practically a Labor Day tradition in America. Those telethons ultimately raised more than $2.45 billion, while also putting muscular dystrophy and the families affected by it in front of millions of people.
That money and awareness helped get us where we are today.
It's tough out there, and it's becoming pretty evident that we're going to have to rely on each other if we're going to keep building a better world. Your donation at the register at United Supermarkets, Market Street, or Amigos doesn't have to be huge to matter. Add what you can. Every dollar helps support the work being done and, maybe most importantly, gives a little more hope to people and families dealing with these diseases every single day.
