Texas Man Ticketed For Missing License Plates While Test-Driving Car
Picture this: You're out test-driving the vehicle of your dreams when suddenly you are pulled over by the police. They want to know where your license plates are. You explain to them that you're only test-driving the car from a nearby dealership. They hand you a citation and send you on your merry way...
Is it fair?
This exact scenario happened to Prosper, Texas man Daniel Rocha while test-driving a truck. Police explained to Rocha that dealerships in the area were notorious for letting customers test drive vehicles that are NOT road-ready or fully legal. Instead of giving citations to the dealership, they've started giving them directly to their customers.
It's a pretty great way to get the dealership to do what they are supposed to do. If you don't have any customers, you won't sell any cars. It's as simple as that. Plus, it's 100% legal. If you're out on the road in a vehicle that isn't legal, that's completely on you.
The dealership in question is Longo Toyota of Prosper, but they claim it is the first time a customer has ever received a citation while test-driving one of their vehicles. The officer involved in the story implied a history of things like this happening NOT just at this dealership, but at several along University Drive or U-S- 380.
Keep your eyes open when you test-drive a car! You could end up with a ticket if you aren't careful.
