Serial Killers: Renowned Criminologist To Host True Crime Talk In Lubbock, Texas
True Crime is a massive genre with many thousands of fans. From the genesis of the genre, Truman Capote's In Cold Blood, to hundreds of TV shows and podcasts, true crime fans (like myself) are kept fascinated with the subject.
Some people try to dismiss the genre as creepy, macabre, or exploitative, however, that view is extremely reductive and assumes the wrong intent from fans. As a fan myself, I can tell you that the main appeal is solving the puzzle.
And the puzzle can be many things- who did it? Why did they do it? How could this happen? And perhaps most importantly: how can we prevent this from happening again?
For many questions, the answers can be philosophical, scientific, or a combination of both. That's why it takes both an analytical and imaginative mind to solve these crimes.
Coming soon to Lubbock is a foremost expert in the field of criminology, Dr. Scott Bonn. He is hosting a talk entitled Serial Killers, which will be held at Buddy Holly Hall's Crickets Theater in time for spooky season on October 26th.
During the show, Dr. Bonn will speak on the lives and psychological profiles of infamous serial killers like, "Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Dennis Rader (BTK Strangler), David Berkowitz (Son of Sam), and the Long Island Serial Killer."
Dr. Bonn profiled the Long Island Serial Killer with uncanny accuracy years before the alleged murderer was captured. Rex Heuermann has not been convicted and has pled not guilty despite possibly damning DNA evidence.
Dr. Bonn will also share his real-life experiences communicating with murderers like mass murderer Colin Ferguson, and female killers Jodi Arias and Pamela Smart. Dr. Bonn will use his expertise to cover thought-provoking and important topics that help solve and prevent crimes like these.
Tickets to the event go on sale Friday, March 28th at 10 a.m. Tickets will be available online at buddyhollyhall.org or at the box office during open hours.
