Legendary Punk Band Black Flag Returns To Lubbock This March
There are very few shows as rowdy and fun as a night with Black Flag.
Never experienced this? Or, if you have, I know you want to again.
Lucky for us, Black Flag, with founding guitarist and primary songwriter Greg Ginn, is returning to Lubbock. The show will be held on Friday, March 22nd at Jake's Backroom. Black Flag will perform two sets.
It's nearly impossible to overstate the influence Black Flag had on punk and hardcore music.
Founded in Hermosa Beach as a key player in the SoCal punk scene, Black Flag, "mixed the raw simplicity of the Ramones with atonal guitar solos and frequent tempo shifts" to create deliciously noisy yet listenable music, with lyrics I find myself quoting constantly in my daily life. Particularly:
I'm about to have a nervous breakdown, my head really hurts!
and of course, at the office:
Drinking black coffee! Drinking black coffee! Stab into my heart! Stab into my heart!
Truly, I am a peach to work with.
Sometimes a band can be influential and important and all that... and be just okay live. I want to assure you that Black Flag is even better live. There is something very electrifying about being in a room full of folks singing, "My War! You say that you're my friend but you're one of them!" at the top of our collective lungs.
Many amazing shows are coming to Lubbock in 2024. Truly, we've been blessed this year. And high among our blessings is Black Flag, in the intimate setting of Jake's Backroom- and on a Friday night. I can't wait to see you there.
