Watching the once mighty Pei Wei limp along for years was just...sad. Almost as if to honor what it once was, I tried the restaurant that now occupies that space, Hokkaido, pretty much as soon as it opened, which I usually don't do.

2026 Has Been A Good Year For Kingsgate Fans

I've been back to Hokkaido a dozen times. It is fantastic, and you can't order wrong- I've eaten nearly the entire menu and enjoyed every single dish I've had. Phenomenal Fast Food

Can we talk about that location of Burger King? While Burger King as a company has launched an initiative to ensure customer satisfaction (which I appreciate), I feel that Kingsgate's BK has been way ahead of the curve. Fresh burgers and fries, great deals, and a staff that seems genuinely happy to serve. I also recently saw a rave review for the Fazoli's in Kingsgate, too:

Not only was our lunch served up fast, fresh, and delicious, but the manager ran and chased us down as we were pulling out of the parking lot to hand me breadsticks they forgot to put in our to-go bag

Dang, that IS dedication.

A Longtime, Laidback Favorite

Hopping across the street, we meet with La Madeline, which has been a favorite of mine for many years. I won't lie- it had a rough patch around the pandemic, and I wasn't sure if it was going to survive. Over the last couple of years, it firmly found its feet and is back to what I always loved- great, quick food from delicious soups, salads, and sandwiches, to decadent desserts and all-day breakfast. It checks a lot of boxes.
