I always heard that random violent crime was rare, that if someone were going to kill you, it would most likely be someone you know.

However, in the age of daily mass shootings in the U.S., it's hard to believe that "fact". Turns out the numbers are incredibly murky, the data is inconsistent, and we just don't know.

The relationship between murder victims and offenders was unknown in 48.9% of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter situations.

But what about a random, hands-on attack? What's the likelihood that someone will kill you, and only you, without the aid of a gun? Probably extremely rare, but it sadly just happened to a Texas man, who was delivering firewood.

According to mysanantonio.com, Scott Jackson, 51, was delivering firewood on Saturday, January 13th in Fort Worth, Texas, when he and the person he was delivering to were allegedly attacked by Chrisantus Omondi.

The customer, who referred to Omondi as a "random guy" who was "extremely" naked, said the man accused Jackson and him of being on Omondi's property (they were not). When the customer told Omondi to leave, Omondi picked up a piece of firewood and struck Jackson in the head, killing him.  Omondi also hit the customer; however, he was able to escape into his house and call the police.

Omondi then returned to an Air BNB down the street, and attempted to force his way into a room rented by a woman who, "believed the man was high and that she feared for her life." Police stunned Omondi after he failed to comply with orders.

Omondi is being held at Tarrant County Corrections Center, facing multiple felony charges, and has his bond set at over $300,000.

The family of Scott Jackson has set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses.

If you can’t donate just send a prayer for him and our family. Thank you so much for all the love and support we have received.
